Up to forty young oval ball enthusiasts attended and enjoyed the Connacht Rugby Summer Camp 2019, hosted by Claremorris Colts RFC recently at the Convent pitch, held in association with Total Health Pharmacy.
The participants at the 5-day camp, managed by fully accredited IRFU coaches, had the chance to make new friends, learn more about rugby values such as team work, discipline, commitment and integrity, with the highlight being the visit of two Connacht rugby star players joining in the sessions. New Zealand born Dom Robertson-McCoy and Portlaoise native Eoghan Masterson, who has strong Mayo roots, outlined to the attendees the importance of physical fitness and demonstrated some basic rugby skills of passing, tackling, evasion and kicking and had lots of fun with all age groups, (from 6-13) to boot! Both Dom’s and Eoghan’s autographs are now featured on kids’ Connacht Rugby ¼ Zip Top and rugby ball that they received during the camp.
Claremorris Colts RFC Chairman Jarlath Sweeney was delighted with the turnout of the first Connacht Rugby Summer Camp 2019 hosted by the club following on from a successful Easter Camp and inaugural SkillZone Camp last November. “Yes, we are very pleased with the attendance, especially as there are so many sporting camps on in the locality all summer long. I know that all the attendees really enjoyed the series of sessions and the visit of the Connacht team players made the occasion all the more memorable. With the new rugby season starting at the end of the month and the Rugby World Cup in September, we are looking forward to busy autumn and winter periods.”
