The Colts Junior team had a tough day at the office last Saturday 23rd as they lost out to a better Oughterard team in round four of the Connacht rugby J2 league.
The home started the brighter and had much of the possession early on. They manged to turn this dominance into scores and were 7-0 after 12 minutes. A second unconverted try before half time meant the Galway lads were well in command and had a 12-0 lead at half time.
The second half continued much like the first with the Colts players coming off second best at ruck time and thus conceding possession to their opponents. Oughterard at had ex Ireland player Jack Clarke dictating play from full back and his class told as two more Oughterard tries were scored in the second half.
The Colts continued to play to the very end and their hard work was rewarded when captain Fergal Leonard crossed after some good work by his forward colleagues. The full time whistle blown shortly after as Oughterard ran out 26-5 winners.
Best on the day for Claremorris were back rowers Padraic Kilboyle and Liam Griffith, while full back Ian O’Brien was outstanding under the high ball for the entire 80 minutes.
