The Connacht rugby U14 league continued with an away trip to NUIG last Saturday.
This was a much changed team from previous weeks as some of the more regular starters were missing due to injury and sickness. The Colts started very well with the new starters eager to impress. Joe McDonagh lead the way with some strong running early on however the home team were rucking well making life tough at the break down. Brian Quinn in another man of the match performance got the scoring started with a fine try. Brian McGuinness duly added the bonus points for a 7-0 lead.
However NUIG came back straight back with a try of their own to peg it back to 7-5. This concession kicked started the Colts once again and Jack Ronayne finished off a fantastic move with the Colts showing the natural talent of the team through slick passing and running lines. As the half time whistle approached NUIG hit a purple patch and the Claremorris defence looked like it was going to breached until Brian Quinn intercepted and scored under the posts. Brian McGuinness again added the points to leave it 19-5 as the teams had the half-time oranges.
The second half started with a tit for tat nature with neither team able to establish dominance. That was until the man again Brian Quinn scored to give his side a 24-5. Although NUIG hit back with a try of their own the Colts started to pull away with Brian Quinn bagging two more tries. Jack Ronayne finished off the scoring with a fine individual try for an excellent 43-17. So onto the next game at home to South Sligo next Sunday, the Colts will want a win to head into the Christmas break.
