The diverse weather conditions upset plans for Claremorris Colts RFC at the weekend, as the Club was forced to cancel the mini rugby blitz planned for Saturday morning. Teams from Headford (Corrib) and Ballyhaunis had been due to travel to Claremorris to take on the local side but after snow fell heavy in the area on Friday night and freezing conditions set in, the Club was forced to cancel the blitz. Hopefully the weather will clear up before next weekend!
Luckily however, the weather conditions didn’t hinder the U-13 and U-15 teams earlier last week, with both putting on fine performances and recording victories over well-respected Clubs from Galway.
On Wednesday evening, the U-13 team travelled to Tuam to take on the locals in a league game and enjoyed a great win over the North Galway side. The team worked well together, with Evan Ronane having a superb game and earning himself the title of Player of the Match.
Meanwhile, the U-15s were also in action on Wednesday night. They travelled to Galway to take on the Corinthians in a challenge match and overcame them on a scoreline of 46-10. Jack Vahey played particularly well on the night and was undoubtedly the Player of the Match.
Training for the U-13s and U-15s is cancelled this Wednesday evening, with all training sessions and games for the Club postponed until further notice. Parents will be updated via text message.
Off the field, the Colts had a very successful Texas Hold ‘Em poker night in Hanley’s Bar in Claremorris last Friday night. Thanks to everyone who braved the weather conditions to come out to support the Club. Well done to our cash prize winners – Kevin Devine, Kevin Daly, Brendan Walsh and Jason Connolly! Thanks also to the team in Hanley’s Bar for facilitating the fundraiser. A great night was had by all.
