The Colts U13 team ended the year in fine style as they continued their unbeaten run with a hard fought 19-8 win over Galwegians in Dunmore on Saturday.
As the sun started to shine and the frost began to thaw the game kicked off in the perfect conditions and the Colts made some good use of their early possession to get the game’s opening score. When Galwegains were penalised for being ahead of the kicker the Colts used this attacking platform to their advantage which allowed Dylan Morris to cut through to score his customary try under the posts. The conversion from Kyle Leonard was never in doubt and the Colts led 7-0.
Galwegians came storming back and when the Colts infringed at ruck time they were back in the game thanks to a well taken penalty which meant they were only four points between at 7-3 when the teams took their half time break.
The second half saw the game open up and the Colts started to put some excellent attacking phases together. Once of these saw Dylan Nevin and Conor Toughey combine before Joe Lydon crashed over in the corner. Kyle Leoanrd knocked over the conversion and his team were well and truly in command at 14-3 in front.
The Colts didn’t rest on their laurels and got in for try number three when Dylan Morris again used his quick feet to evade the Galwegians defence to touch down.
To their credit Galwegians kept plugging away and with 15 minutes remaining were back in the game when they out-muscled the Colts defence to cross for a try of their own. The Galwegians tails were up and they went in search of another score however the Colts defence would not breached for a second time as they held on a for a 19-8 win.
