The convent pitch was the setting on Saturday as the Colts U13 squad continued their excellent start to the season when they recorded a hard fought win over a well organised Monivea side in an U13 challenge game.
The Colts made their customary bright start and were 3-0 in front after 13 minutes when Kyle Leonard knocked over a penalty after Monivea were penalised for coming in from the side at ruck time.
They increased their lead five minutes later when Charlie Phillips’s good work sent Dylan Morris through the centre of the Monivea defence. His quick feet saw him brush the tackles aside as he touched down under the posts. The conversion was added by Lyle Leonard and the Colts were 10-0 as the first half drew to a close.
The second half was a tight affair and the Colts defence were forced to work hard to keep the visitors scoreless. After a period of excellent defensive play the Colts counter attacked and found themselves within 5′ of the Monviea line. The Colts were then awarded a penalty which Kyle Leonard took quickly and dive over the line to claim the try. He also added the extras to give himself a personal tally of 12 points and his team a 17-0 lead. Although behind Monivea kept plugging away and were rewarded for their endeavor when they crossed in the corner with the last play of the game as the game finished in a 17-5 win for the Colts.
