The U13’s of Ballinrobe & Claremorris had a fine workout on Saturday morning as both teams played some attacking rugby and shared 9 tries between them in an exciting challenge game.
The Colts were first to register a try when from an attacking scrum inside the Ballinrobe 22′, number 8 Matthew Merrick picked off the back of the scrum to touch down. Ballinrobe responded and were in front three minutes later when they out muscled the Colts defence to lead 7-5 after 10 minutes.
From the resultant kick off the Colts worked the ball through a number of phases before Dylan Morris crossed for his first try of the game. Kyle Leonard added the extras and the Colts were 12-7 in front. The lead didn’t last long as again Ballinrobe out foxed the Colts defenders to lead 14-12 as half time approached. There was however time for another score. Dylan Morris got his second try after fine work from his pack and the Colts led 17-14 at half time.
There was no let up in trys in the second half as both teams continued to attack at will. Matthew Merrick repeated his play from the first when again he picked off the back of an attacking scrum to cross for this second try. Kyle Leonard did the business with the boot and the Colts were 24-14 in front.
Although behind Ballinrobe continued to throw caution to the wind and were rewarded with a fine team score. From a scrum on the Colts 5′ they worked the ball through the hands to cross in the corner and put themselves back in the game.
As the game neared full time the Colts attacking play was rewarded with two more tries. Firstly Joe Lydon crossed after his forwards had made the hard yards. Then Dylan Nevin rounded off the win when he reached out to get the ball down right on the line to give the Colts an excellent 36-19 win.
