The Colts junior bandwagon rolls on as they recorded three successive wins for the first time in their short history when claiming a hard fought away win over Castlebar under the Friday night lights.
The first half was a tight affair with both sides trying to lay down a marker during the opening exchanges and the early minutes were a cagey affair. It took 24 minutes before the deadlock was broken. Off an attacking lineout the Colts forwards put a number of phases together before scrum-half Rob Kelly spotted the smallest of gaps to cross the line. Although the conversion wasn’t added the Colts had started to play the better rugby and make better use of the possession they had.
Try number two came along just ten minutes later. After a Colts driving maul, Morgan Jennings was held up over the line. From the resulting scrum the Colts backs worked the ball wide which saw Liam Feeley cross for his first of two trys on the night. Shane Meehan did the business with the kicking tee and suddenly the Colts had a very healthy 12-0 lead at the half time break.
The second half followed a similar pattern as the first while both team were guilty of simple mistakes with the referee penalising both sets of players on numerous occasions at scrum and lineout time. The Colts sealed the win 12 minutes from time when Liam Feeley again crossed after some fine interplay among the Colts back. The Colts saw out the game with some fine defensive play as Castlebar pushed to claim a moral boosting score. It wasn’t to be and the dream for three had been completed, next up is the score for four!!
