Claremorris U14s took to the field in Ballinrobe on Saturday in their first match of the new season. The panel of 19 included 4 new players among its ranks. Claremorris quickly established their intent when Jack Creighton crossed the whitewash in the first 3 minutes to score the first of his 5 tries in the match. Brian McWalters also crossed twice to score two tries.
The solid boot of Jack Melvin tacked on another 12 points by converting 6 out of 7 conversion attempts. Impressive. However it was far from one way traffic as the heavier pack from Ballinrobe scored 6 tries, thanks to a lack of defence from the Colts. Tackling will be high on the agenda at training.
All in all not a bad start for the first match of the season. Well done to Oisin Kilroy, Fiachra Glavey, Maoise Midtrovic and Cathal Devane on their first youth grade match in the red jersey.
The lads will face Ballyhaunis away at 4pm next Saturday, 23rd of September.
