They say all good things must come to an end and this is the case with the 2012 summer tag league. After 57 games, 6 yellow cards, numerous tries and plenty of blood(literally) sweat and even a few tears the 2012 draws to a close.

As ever finals night was a busy affair with 8 games down for decision with four trophies to be won. First up was the one they all wanted to win or maybe not, the Wooden Spoon decider. This game was between Pappa’s Finest and The Smurfs. In a close encounter, it was Pappa’s Finest who came out on top. The Bowl final was even closer as it took a golden score from The Good, The Tag & The F#####g Ugly in extra time to beat Maxwell Taggers by the narrowest of margins.

The Plate final was a high scoring game with The Chancers having enough firepower to get past Why Always Us. The last game of the night was the big one, the Cup final. It pitted Robe Ruckers the only unbeaten team in the competition captained by Damien Burke against Fan-Taggin-Tastic led by Pearse Hahessy. This game was fast and furious right from off with Fan-Taggin-Tastic leading 8-4 at half time. The second half was just as hectic, with scores a plenty on both sides, however Fan-Taggin-Tastic just had too much for Robe Ruckers and triumphed 18-8, with Fan-Taggin-Tastic’s Daire Mulgrew picking up the player of the match accolade.

Once the Tagging was done, it was off to Hanley’s Bar for the presentation ceremony. Along with the team awards there was the Female player of the tournament to be decided which was claimed by Sharon McKeown of Fan-Taggin-Tastic with the male equivalent going to the David Nestor of the Robe Ruckers. The final award of the night, the Friendliest team was claimed by The Smurfs. A huge well done to all who participated in the league and all those who came to the training nights right throughout the year. Finally a big thanks to Eamon, Caroline and all in Hanley’s Bar for sponsoring this years league.
