Claremorris Colts RFC were in action again at the weekend, with the U-13s and U-15s travelling to Ballyhaunis to take on Ballina and Dunmore respectively. Once again, the generosity of spirit shown by Ballyhaunis RFC must be commended as the neighbouring Club has offered the Colts use of their facilities for the Claremorris home games. This example of local clubs pulling together is admirable and while the Colts hope to have a place to call their own some day in the future, they are extremely grateful to all at Ballyhaunis RFC for their kindness at present.
Unfortunately, both the U-13s and U-15s were beaten at the weekend. The U-13s met a very strong Ballina side and realistically did extremely well put a few scores past the North Mayo side along the way.
The U-15s met Dunmore and, while they were beaten on the day, did themselves and the Club proud. The Colts were narrowly beaten 10-5 and really, it came down to the last kick of the game. The entire panel of 22 played their hearts out against a strong Dunmore side, particularly in the second half. The Players of the Day for the U-15s were Shane Gilbert, Thomas Browne, Jack Vahey, Daniel Merrick and Liam Murphy.
Training for the U-13s and U-15s continues on Wednesday evening at 6pm at the Claremorris GAA training pitch.
Meanwhile, the younger Colts teams are away this coming Saturday, November 13, for a mini rugby blitz. The blitz will be held across two venues and will involve clubs from Castlebar, Claremorris, Ballina and Sligo.
The U-11s and U-12s from each of the four clubs will play in Castlebar, while the U-8s, U-9s and U-10s will play in Ballina. Games will start at 10.30am and all players are asked to be at the Ballina or Castlebar grounds at 10am.
The Colts are currently running a raffle in Claremorris, with lines on sale at just €2 throughout a host of local businesses and from club coaches. The draw will take place at training tomorrow (Wednesday, November 17) and the tickets will be pulled by youth players.
First prize will be two tickets to the Ireland V New Zealand game, second prize will be two tickets to the Ireland V Argentina game, and third prize will be two tickets to the Connacht V Munster game. All support would be gratefully appreciated.
