It was another quiet weekend on the rugby scene for Claremorris Colts RFC and, with the cold snap looking likely to last the week, the players are getting more and more anxious to return to training.
The youth age groups in particular (U-13s and U-15s) are eager to get back to the action – the U-13s in the North Connacht League and the U-15s in the Development League. Up until now, both teams have been performing extremely well – the U-13s under the direction of coaches Pearse Hahessy and Kevin O’Malley; the U-15s under Fergal Leonard, Andy Maxwell and Paul Cunnane.
The U-13s have been making their mark on the North Connacht League and won their last game, as well as winning a number of challenge matches. The U-15s are also creating quite a stir and are currently lying joint second in the Development League. Their recent victory over Corinthians in a challenge game also served to boost confidence among the players!
The coaches and players at all levels are hoping to return to training at the weekend, weather permitting, but parents will be notified by text closer to the time. The Club has to be prudent and take into account the health and safety of all players and members at all times and additional sessions will be added at the end of the season to accommodate any sessions missed due to the current weather conditions.
Plans are also underway for a Christmas party for the mini rugby teams (U-7s, U-8s, U-9s, U-10s, U-11s and U-12s) upstairs in the function room of The Ruck and Maul on Saturday, December 18. Meanwhile, the Club will also be holding a teenage disco in the Western Hotel on Wednesday, December 22, with a discounted entry rate for Colts players. More details will follow closer to the time.
