The Claremorris Colts U13 team enjoyed a comfortable 43-5 win over Portumna on the 22nd of January. However their match against Oughterard would always prove a tougher test. Oughterard started strongly and cantered in for a try after 10 minutes. However the Colts got the measure of their opposition and struck back with a fine running try scored by Brian McWalters. Jack Melvin kicked superbly to make it 7 points all. Then Jack Creighton used his speed and aggression to score in the corner. So it was advantage to the Colts at half time, 12 points to 7.
The second half saw an arm wrestle which would see both teams put major pressure on each other’s try line. Oughterard scored a try and conversion to make in 12 points to 14. The Colts hammered away at the Oughterard line and very nearly got over on a number of occasions. However with three minutes to go the big no. 8 from the Galway team got hold of the ball, ran down the side line and put the game out of reach of the Colts. 12points to 21 it finished up.
The U13’s continue to improve with every match and have a couple more league matches to go before they meet Corrib in the cup. Keep it going lads.
