Claremorris Colts RFC are continuing to make their mark on the local rugby circuit and at the weekend, the U-13s and U-15s were in action.
On Saturday, the U-13 team travelled to Westport to take on the local side in their first game of the league. They were narrowly defeated on the day but put in a great performance, particularly in the second half. The Colts Player of the Game was Patrick Barry.
Meanwhile on Sunday, the U-15 team defeated Ballyhaunis 15-12 in the second round of their league. The Claremorris tries were scored by Jarlath Ruane, Shane Gilbert and Aaron Ronayne. The players put in a massive team performance against the Ballyhaunis side, with Aaron Ronayne earning himself Player of the Game. Aaron, who is new to rugby this year, was superb on the day and will certainly prove an asset for the Colts in the months and years ahead. The Colts would like to thank Ballyhaunis RFC for allowing them use of their facilities on Sunday, as this encounter was technically a home game for the Colts.
Training for the U-13s and U-15s continues on Wednesday evening at 6pm at the Claremorris GAA training pitch. On Saturday, the Claremorris U-13 team will take on Ballina in Ballyhaunis, while the U-15s will play against Dunmore at Ballyhaunis RFC at 12noon on Sunday.
The mini rugby blitz, which had been scheduled for this Saturday, November 13, has been postponed as the Castlebar team are travelling to the Samoa game. As a result, the blitz will take place the following Saturday, November 20. The blitz will be held across two venues and will involve clubs from Castlebar, Claremorris, Ballina and Sligo. The U-11s and U-12s from each of the four clubs will play in Castlebar, while the U-8s, U-9s and U-10s will play in Ballina.
Training for the U-8s to U-12s will continue this week as usual at the Mount St Michael pitch at 11am.
