Colts U16 Girls vs Portumna
League Semi-final
All roads led back to Portumna for the U16A league semi-final. A repeat of the last round clash with a chance of a final appearance and possible silverware. The girls turned up with steel in their eyes and determination in their guts and Portumna knew they were in a battle royale from the off. The Colts played as a unit and spread the ball at every chance and dragged the big Portumna pack around the pitch leaving them puffing for breath and then hitting them up the middle play after play. Saoirse Quinn marshalled the Colts pack and put in ferocious tackles again and again. Captain Fantastic Aine Mangan led from the front with her pack on her heels. Ceira Nyland, despite being under the weather with a cold, played like a woman possessed and kept the back line in check and her pressure and reading of the game led to her scoring the Colts only try and converting it to leave it at 7-0 at half time. The second half started at the same relentless pace and a series of unforced errors and silly penalties led to Portumna gaining ground and going over for an unconverted try leaving the score at 7-5. There were some fantastic individual displays from Jenna Mortimer, Saoirse Quinn, Aine Mangan, Ceira Nyland, and the pack. It was these performances that saw some relentless attacks from Portumna come to nothing, and it was the Colts who finished with a pep in their step to see the game out for a well-deserved team victory. The girls savoured the victory afterwards and have 2 weeks to prepare for the final. Thanks to all the supporters who came to cheer the girls on, on what was a memorable day for all involved.
