Both Claremorris and Westport travelled to Castlebar in pursuit of the Connacht U15 plate on a glorious April afternoon and it was the Bulls who triumphed to end the season on a high note.
Westport made the much brighter start and were 5-0 up within three minutes. After good work at scrum time they crashed over for the game’s opening try. We didn’t have to wait too long for the next try when the Bulls cut through the poor Colts defence before touching down under the posts. The extras were also added to give Westport a 12-0. As the half wore on the Colts started to get a foothold in the game and although they had a sustained spell inside the Westport 22′ they could not translate the pressure into a score, to leave Westport well placed at half time.
The second half continued like the first with Westport time again turning over Colts ball at ruck time. Four Westport tries in a 15 minute spell put this Plate Final well truly to bed as the Colts were beaten all over the pitch.
Despite being been well behind the Colts kept playing and were rewarded with after a well worked lineout move Stephen McGreal crossed over for a consolation score. Not to be outdone the bulls ended the game in style when their backs put the ball through the hands before going over under the posts to round off a fine 43-5 win.
Although beaten the Colts can hold their head high and the club would like to say a big thanks to all the players and their coaches Pearse Hahessy and Micheal Smith for all their hard work throughout the season.
